McDonald’s is the largest provider of hot breakfast in the United States due to the Egg McMuffin.  That single culinary invention changed the way millions of Americans eat breakfast.  So now it’s time for us to introduce the breakfast dog.  Inspired by a traditional American breakfast, I wanted to include fried eggs, crispy bacon and hash browns. As a result, the breakfast hot dog was born. Not only is it a mouth watering sight, but each bite is a perfect blend of flavors.

4 all beef hot dogs
8 strips of bacon
4 eggs
16 frozen tater tots
1/4 cup yellow mustard
1/4 cup ketchup
4 slices American cheese, cut into quarters
6 hot dog buns (or try making some homemade English muffin hot dog buns)
1 Roma or plum tomato chopped (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste

Heat over to 400 degrees.  Place 8 strips of bacon on a cookie tray and the tater tots and hot dogs on another and cook in the oven until done, approximately 20 minutes for the bacon and 15 minutes for the tater tots and hot dogs.  Remove from oven and cover to keep warm.   While the bacon, tater tots and hot dogs are cooking, heat skillet on medium heat, add butter.  When butter is melted gently crack eggs and cook in pan until done, approximately 4-5 minutes.  Keep them sunny side up if you like running yolks or flip and cook another minute  if you prefer the yolks to be well done.

Tear slice of American cheese in half and place each half lengthwise on a hot dog bun.  Place two strips of bacon on each side of the bun on top of the cheese and put a hot dog in the middle.  Then top each dog with a line of mustard and a line of ketchup.  Add four tater tots on top.  Add chopped tomato if you like.  Then place one fried egg on top of the tater tots and tomatoes.  Add salt and pepper to taste.  Eat while warm.  It will be messy, but delicious!

Duh, I don’t know why I never thought of this. We tried it last night for breakfast and my teenage kids thought it was great.

Wow, what’s not to love. You’ve inspired me to try this – the only danger is that I might eat them for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
