Buffalo Blue Cheese Hot Dogs

I was introduced to a Buffalo blue cheese hot dog in Kansas City of all places.  I had grown up in Upstate New York, not too far from Buffalo, the home of buffalo style chicken wings,so when I saw it on the menu I had to try it. This iconic combination of flavors works especially well on hot dogs, so if you like buffalo style chicken wings I encourage you to try this recipe for a Buffalo style hot dog.

But a word of warning, once you’ve had a buffalo blue cheese hot dog, you may never be able to eat a plain hot dog again!  Buffalo blue cheese hot dogs are the perfect combination of spiciness and savoriness. The blue cheese mellows out the hot sauce and the celery gives every bite a bit of great texture and crunch!

1 package of all beef hot dogs, 8 count
1 package of soft hoagie rolls, 8 count
1 small red onion, thinly sliced
1 celery stalk, thinly sliced (include leaves if you like them)
2 fresh deli pickles, thinly sliced
4 oz blue cheese, crumbled
hot sauce, to taste
blue cheese dressing, to taste

Heat the hot dogs using your favorite method.
To assemble a Buffalo Blue Cheese Hot Dog, place one hot dog in each bun.  Divide the onions, pickles and blue cheese crumbles so you have an even amount for each hot dogs.  Place a hot dog in each bun, then place the sliced red onions and sliced pickles between the sides of the hot dog and the bun, then crumble the blue cheese on top.  Add an appropriate amount of hot sauce (my favorite is Frank’s Red Hot) and blue cheese salad dressing. Add the sliced celery on top for presentation.
