The hoisin sauce gives this ketchup a deep, earthy sweetness while honey, soy sauce, sherry, and five spice powder add the distinctive complex flavors of char siu sauce—the Chinese barbecue sauce.


1/2 cup ketchup
3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon dry sherry
1/2 teaspoon five spice powder

Whisk together together ketchup, hoisin, honey, soy sauce, sherry, and five spice powder in a small bowl. Use immediately or transfer to an airtight container and store in refrigerator for up to a month.
